Shalakya Tantra is the branch of Ayurveda focused on diagnosing and treating diseases of the head and neck—analogous to modern Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), and Dentistry.

• Origins: Traces back to ancient Vedic texts, where the celestial healers Ashwini Kumaras were cited for curing blindness, deafness, and eye injuries.
• Classical Literature: Classical texts (Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Ashtanga Hridaya) detail eye, ear, nose, throat, and oral disorders, including surgical and cosmetic procedures.
• Clinical Focus: OPDs frequently manage conditions such as refractive errors, dry eye syndrome, conjunctivitis, hearing loss, tinnitus, headaches, nasal allergies, and mouth ulcers.
